Yes, there were both suspense and thriller aspects that added excitement (that I enjoyed of course). This was a book unlike anything I've ever read before. It showed both the darkness and the hope and love of trying to recover and do better. There was also a look at the life of a child growing up way too soon with a drug addicted mother. Their stories also gave glimpses into LGBTQIA discrimination, including a lack of interest by both police and journalists regarding the deaths of sex workers just because of their perceived sexual orientations. I found myself lost in their stories, hurt by the choices they made to just get by, scared for their safety, wanting them to have better opportunities in their lives (re: the male sex workers).

This book is more of an intimate look at parts of the LGBTQIA community. Because, the killer is revealed very early on.
